It’s Getting Out of Hand

And I am not just talking about the heartburn. No, I am referring to the completely over-the-top list-making. I make at least one every day and for everything possible. I’m scaring myself.

Look at this scary-taking up AN entire page list!

And when did my hand-writing get SO sloppy :(

Did you notice on my Monday list…one of the items was to make ANOTHER list? That is just because I have to take baby steps when it comes to the grocery store ;) Instead of just going and you know, providing nourishment for our family, I just like to work on a list for a couple days at a time…

The Screened Porch, Revisited.

I’ve been spending a lot of these days in Autumn-induced nostalgia. Or maybe it is just the hormones. We are only one week away from our much-anticipated trip to Ohio and I am craving Grandma Jan’s screened-in porch. Full blown pregnancy craving for a PORCH! That’s just crazy. Since I have to wait a bit longer before I can sit there and enjoy the breeze and company, I found some old photo’s to tide me over.

What we mostly do on the porch. I can be found naked and stuffing my face in the black highchair. Typical. The stuffing my face part, I mean.

Here I am looking a little more dignified. Contemplative. Crazy-haired.

The porch always makes me think of my mom’s birthday, too. We were normally in Ohio for her July birthday and celebrated in 4th of July, hot dogs & hamburgers fashion.

Here I am with my cousin Shannon, before celebrating her 18th birthday. Shannon is my cousin on my mom’s side but Grandma Jan adopted her too and she spent many, many summers with us on the porch, too.

There are many, many, many more pictures of the Danley family hanging out here but these are the couple I had at my house. I’ll take more to add to the collection  in another week!  Yay!

Clearly, the most wonderful time of the year!

Fall is just my favorite. The sensory overload of colors, scents, sweaters, foods and sunlight just does it for me. Anybody familiar with Color-Me-Beautiful and their specific season? That book/theory was my mom’s second bible and I grew up well-versed in knowing what my “colors” were.  Friends, I am an Autumn. We are just a match made in mustard yellow, olive green & brown heaven.

I don’t know how to make a wreath, but if I did..there wouldn’t be a tacky display of dollar store leaves on our front door. Oh well, works for me!

Fugi, Gala, Rome, Pink Ladies…..waiting to be made into Applesauce on the stove. If I could stop eating them first.

fun 046

I don’t know if my little butterball will make his appearance before or after the most delicious holiday ever…but I sure wanted to buy this the other day!

It’s Fall, Y’all! Go watch yourself some college football! Make yourself some pumpkin bread! Put out your autumn wreath! Go buy me an autumn wreath!

30 Week Brain Dump

~ I'm a huge fan of Marcus’ firefighter schedule, especially the 5 days off once a month. I’m less of a fan of hell week {24 on, 24 off for 7 days} Hello, hell week. Hope you move along quickly!

~ Speaking of Marcus, last week he went to the dentist for a cleaning. He went to the appt. with a toothache but figured he would schedule another day to get the suspected cavity taken care of. A couple hours later he called me to report that he had his teeth cleaned, a broken tooth fixed, a wisdom tooth removed AND a cavity filled. Whoa, productivity. I found myself a new dentist!

~Just had my first appt with my new midwives and it was fantastic!! I’ll probably write a blog post on how we made the decision to go with a homebirth. Or, as I call it…flying our freak flag :) I asked Marcus if he was getting a lot of negative responses about doing a home birth and he assured me he hadn’t. A couple seconds later he explained “Well, maybe it’s the way I present it. When they ask about our childbirth plans I tell them we are having an unassisted field birth. You know, to be one with nature. I let that sink in a minute before saying ‘Just kidding, man…we’re just having a homebirth.’  I would love to see the look on his fellow firefighter faces..

~Since I have not been very good about driving back to my old job to swim as much as I would like too, I’ve taken up bike riding.  The nice paved Dismal Swamp Trail  has been perfect for some good exercise. The first time I went, my older brother and I rode 8 miles. It was harder than I thought but since I was not sore the day after I figured I could go farther next time. Round two… I went with my younger brother for 10 miles. I have my pride to thank for making it back to the car.  As I was huffing & puffing and praying for strength {meanwhile my brother is riding leisurely at the slow pace I  set, chatting up a storm. I definitely could not talk!} I gasped “Patrick, are your legs sore/tired/cramped?” He looked at my kind of quizzically “No.”    Yeah, me neither Patrick.  Me Neither.

~It is a very small world after all. While watching Marcus play fall softball last week {& hit a home run!} I thought the umpire looked incredibly familiar. As in, I think he taught my 9th grade P.E./Health class. I mentioned it to Marcus, and yes, not only was the umpire my PE teacher, but he also went to Fire Academy with Marcus and is now works for VBFD too.

~Anybody else loooooove sleeping with the windows open?! Perfect, perfect weather!

~I’m starting to feel a little bit overwhelmed about my ever-growing Before Baby arrives to-do list. Some of them are silly nesting obsessions like organizing the cans in my pantry, cavities filled, go through the bookshelves, etc. BUT then there are more important things. Finding a pediatrician. Making life insurance decisions. Making space for the baby’s clothes and diapers.  And my goal to have Christmas figured out by the end of October- as in gifts, cards, the baby’s stocking-the whole holiday 9 yards. I don’t think Christmas shopping and newborns mix. Hence, my hurry. This is one of those times I wish I was not a procrastinator.

~The only challenge the 3rd Trimester has presented me with so far is overwhelming hunger. I cannot seem to get enough to eat.. I eat right before I go to bed, I  eat at least once in the middle of the night and wake up by 6:30 needing to eat again. Even though I am eating healthy things- mainly just protein- I was still wondering if this was normal. I brought it up to my midwives and they suspected low blood sugar. And told me to keep on eating.  The eating in the middle of the night thing definitely messes with the sleeping thing that is supposed to be happening. So aside from a little insomnia and pregnancy-induced munchies, so far so good.

~I’m SO excited for our little vacation to Ohio. We have nothing on the agenda except naps, enjoying the fall weather,  sweet tea on the screened porch, my grandmothers’ delicious meals and doing whatever the heck we want. I’m feeling so blessed that we have the opportunity to get away and spend time with family and each other. The next two weeks might drag on for me.. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

~I tried to take a picture of my 30 week belly bump. It turned out like this:

Whoops!! That auto-focus thing didn’t really work out so well. Thanks, super expensive Nikon.

Time for my late night second dinner & packing my mid-night snack!

Septembers of the Past

"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address."  ~You’ve Got Mail

I’ve never been to New York in the fall, but there is something so nostalgic about this time of year. Especially this past week when Hampton Roads was gifted with the unusual gift of windows-open worthy weather!  September is half-over already and I’ve been reminiscing what we were doing this time last year.

September 2011- Celebrating the news of Marcus’ acceptance to the Virginia Beach Fire Department & saying goodbye to his youth ministry job.  I was discovering the joys of decorating your first home for Autumn..

A Case of the Writer’s Block

I blame it on my lack of photography recently.  Pictures typically fueled all blog content around here.  And since I am in the middle of uploading and ordering a year’s worth of pictures to be printed {Go! snapfish.com is doing their 99 prints for 99 cents! You can use the promo code as many times as your want} I am realizing I probably need to take LESS pictures. Especially since the pictures I printed from the previous year are still in a box, waiting to be put in albums or frames.  One of my big projects before baby’s arrival is to tackle the box of photos from 2010, 2011 and the soon arriving 2012 pictures…wish me luck!

I figure I’ll be taking lots of pictures again once the baby boy is here so I’m just taking a break.  We’ll be taking a trip to Ohio in the beginning of October as well as a mini get-a-way to a Matthews County bed & breakfast in the next couple months so the camera won’t be sitting in the closet for much longer. One other checkbox on my ‘before baby’ to do list is to finally shoot on my dad’s old 35 mm camera. I bought the film & battery but have been feeling intimidated. Hopefully I’ll get good practice during our little travels and be pretty good at it by the time I’m ready to take pictures of the baby with it!

Until my memory card is full again, I’m sure things will be pretty quiet here on the blog. I’m sure nobody wants to hear my ramble on about pregnancy just as much as I am tired of hearing myself ramble on about it :) September is already sneaking by quickly and it has been a pretty low key month. Marcus firefights, {no, really…he put out his first fire finally about a week ago!} works with his dad here & there, and is now taking on some tree work again. Just like the old days! We’ll just be enjoying the rest of our month before our little vacation to Ohio!

And since snapfish just informed me that my 1,000 pictures are finished uploading and are ready to be ordered..I’ve got my work cut out for me for now :)

Crrrunch.

Somebody stop me. In just one evening I made myself a batch of shampoo, conditioner & face wash.  Actually, I made shampoo, conditioner and face wash right after emailing my new midwives to confirm my November homebirth. Sheeeesh!

I wish I could say I made those beauty products because I am incredible green and environmentally friendly. Or because I am appalled at the chemicals hidden in our hair care. Unfortunately, I would happily continue using my Pantene Pro-V, and Mary Kay face wash no matter how much they damage they environment or how many extra harsh poisons I’m getting on myself.. I like the stuff! The truth is, being cheap is one step away from being crunchy. Yup, It was all about the Benjamin's. Just trying to be creative with ways to save money!

{Speaking of crunchy, please enjoy this ridiculous video..}  Finished? While I love my coconut oil, am willing to pay big bucks for real maple syrup and probably won’t elect for the chickenpox vaccine…somebody please kick me if I ever sound like that woman! And in case you were wondering..No, I won’t be eating my placenta!

Love,

My hair smells a little like vinegar…
